Author: Gardner Wilkinson Many people feel once they retire they will be able to enjoy their life. As age catches up, so do ailments unfortunately. There are many older people who are now under Senior Care programs. Some are under adult home care, Adult Day Care depending on their individual needs. The golden years can bring about uncertainty about daily activities that were once taken for granted. Home care prevents the elderly patients from going away to a commercial institution such as a group home or nursing facility. If such person is in need of or senior care around the home, a home care aide or caregiver can be brought in to help the patient live independently. Caregivers and home care aides can provide simple respite care such as staying with a patient while the family members rest or go on vacation. Assuring the patient has three meals a day by preparing, serving and cleaning up is a benefit to the patient receiving home care services. Making sure patients take their medicines with meals is also an important factor in overall care. Elderly care is focused on satisfying the expectations of two tiers of customers: the resident customer and the purchasing customer, who are often not identical, since relatives or public authorities rather than the resident may be providing the cost of care. Where residents are confused or have communication difficulties, it may be very difficult for relatives or other concerned parties to be sure of the standard of care being given, and the possibility of elder abuse is a continuing source of concern. The Adult Protective Services Agency - a component of the human service agency in most states - is typically responsible for investigating reports of domestic elder abuse and providing families with help and guidance-Other professionals who may be able to help include doctors or nurses, police officers, lawyers, and social workers.
